NMPCI
is a non-government organization that promotes the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in the HOME and in the
COMMUNITY, particularly among very young children (six years old and under).
The Beginnings...
NMPCI began as a project of Children's Laboratory for Drama In Education, Foundation, the Department of Social Welfare
and Development under the then Bureau of Child and Youth Welfare (now the Bureau of Programmes and Special Projects); and
UNICEF.
Forty (40) day care workers from Metro Manila were trained in the creative methodology called Drama in Education and
Children's Theatre (DIECT) with the Convention on the Rights (CRC) as the content framework.
The participants field tested their modules. After several months they held a Children's Festival with 300 children from
their day care centers. The field test and the Festival showed that the Convention on the Rights of the Child can be taught
to children at a very early age.
In 1995, a year after, a follow-up workshop on materials development was conducted. It was on this workshop that the
idea to form a group came up and was decided. The focus of which is the promotion of the CRC through DIECT to very young
children.
